The intercultural studies minor is for students whose career aspirations require a strong base in missionary knowledge such as mission’s pastors, specialized missionaries, associate missionaries, and short-term missionaries. Students graduating with an intercultural studies minor may pursue further academic study.
Objectives
Upon completion of this degree students should be able to:

demonstrate the character of Christ and a servant’s heart as a basis for service.

understand the major religions of the world and how to communicate to those of other faiths.
-
demonstrate an understanding of the biblical basis, history, current concepts, strategies, theology, and dynamics of intercultural service.
-
understand and demonstrate how to successfully live, relate, and work while training and empowering national leadership in a crosscultural setting.
-
integrate theory and practice in a field experience designed to affirm students’ gifts and to develop students’ professional skills.
-
develop an attitude of acceptance and appreciation of other cultures and peoples.
Admission to the Intercultural Studies Program
Admission and acceptance into the intercultural studies program includes:
-
successful completion of EDUC 250 Foundations of Education with a grade of “C” or above.
-
successful completion of ITCS 101 Introduction to Missions course with a grade of “C” or higher.
-
a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher.
-
a professional GPA of 2.50 or higher.
Application for admission to the intercultural studies program must be made during the first semester of the sophomore year. Students who meet the above criteria must be formally approved by the intercultural studies committee.
Admission to Internship
Application for admission to the intercultural studies internship must be made to the intercultural studies committee during the first 8 weeks of the first semester of the junior year before the intercultural studies internship is planned. Students must complete the internship before their final semester of school.
Outcomes Assessment
The outcomes assessment requirement includes:

a standardized outcomes assessment test, taken during the senior year.

a Bible content test.
-
successful completion of senior seminar with synthesis paper.
-
successful completion and evaluation of intercultural internship.
