Minor in Intercultural Studies

The intercultural studies minor is for students whose career aspirations require a strong base in missionary knowledge such as mission’s pastors, specialized missionaries, associate missionaries, and short-term missionaries. Students graduating with an intercultural studies minor may pursue further academic study.

Objectives
Upon completion students should be able to:
  • manifest in personal life the character of Christ and a servant’s heart as a basis for Christian ministry.
  • outline the tenets of religions of the world and tell how to witness to persons of those faiths.
  • show a basic understanding of the biblical basis, history, current concepts, strategies, theology, and dynamics of the global Christian movement.
  • evidence practical knowledge of relating to, working with, and implementing effective methods of evangelism, nurturing believers, and training leadership for mission-receiving churches.
  • integrate theory and practice in a field experience designed to affirm the gifts of students and to develop ministry skills and an attitude of acceptance and appreciation of other cultures and peoples.
  • understand and demonstrate how to successfully live, relate, and work while implementing effective methods of evangelism, nurturing believers, and training national leadership in a non-western culture.
  • integrate theory and practice in a field experience designed to affirm the gifts of students and to develop ministry skills and an attitude of acceptance and appreciation of other cultures and peoples.
Outcomes Assessment
The outcomes assessment requirement includes:
  • a standardized outcomes assessment test, taken during the senior year.
  • a Bible content test.
  • successful completion of senior seminar with synthesis paper.
Program Requirements
Intercultural Studies 20 Credits
*All Bachelor of Arts students are required to have 128 credits at graduation. If students are seeking only this minor, they will be required to complete a total of 25 credits of electives. However, should they add an additional minor, the number of electives will decrease by the number of credits required for the second minor.
