The Trinity Bible College men’s basketball team lost all three games this past weekend at the Assemblies of God Credit Union Classic. Trinity had a tall order in front of them considering Valley Forge Christian is ranked #2 in the nation, while Central Bible College and North Central University are ranked #7 and #10, respectively.
The first game didn’t turn out as well as the Lions had hoped. Second ranked Valley Forge Christian College won handily 106-65, showing why they are nationally ranked. Freshman Mikey Rosario led the Lions with 14 points. Terrance Sevion contributed 12 points and 3 steals. Trinity had 5 players make at least two three-pointers on the evening.
The second game was against #10 North Central University. Trinity led 43-39 at half but couldn’t hang on to the lead, falling in the end 96-83. Five Lions would score in double-figures. Shean Bosworth scored 26 points, pulled down 9 rebounds, and handed out 7 assists to help lead the Lions. Terrance Sevion scored 17 points, had 7 boards, and dished out 4 assists in the loss. Mikey Rosario and Jimmy McKinzie each added 12 points, while Micah Gunther had 10 points. The Lions were out-rebounded on the day 54-35.
In the third and final game of the Classic, the Lions matched up against #7 Central Bible College out of Springfield, MO. Trinity would fall for the 3rdstraight time 72-81. The Lions again would lead at half, but fail to protect the lead in the second half. The Lions were led in scoring by Terrance Sevion with 19. Sevion also had 5 steals in the game. Shean Bosworth scored 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to help the Lions. Michael Rohrbach and Colby Simonsen each added 12 and 11, respectively.
Coach Nowell had this to say about the weekend: “Except for the loss to Valley Forge, I felt we came out and showed we can play the best teams in the nation close. We were leading at half in 2 out of the 3 games but we couldn’t hold the lead. If anything, I hope it gives us some confidence moving forward. We’ve got to start winning these games instead of just getting close.”
Terrance Sevion was named to the Assemblies of God Credit Union All-Tourney team. For the tournament, Terrance averaged 16 points, 3 steals, and 2.33 assists. Congratulations Terrance on a great weekend!
