For the first time, Trinity Bible College football has National Christian College Athletic Association (NCCAA) All-Americans. In the past, Don Hanson’s football Gazette named a D-III/small college All-American team which last saw a Lion football player on it back in 2006. This month however, the National NCCAA All-American team was released. This team included 26 of the NCCAA’s best players forming the team and then they also named an Honorable Mention team.
Being named to the team were Sophomore 1st team Defensive back Joel Sandoz from St. Paul, Nebraska and Freshman 1st team Wide Receiver and Return Specialist Clay Emerson from Orlando, Florida. Senior Defensive Back Matt Fellers and Sophomore Offensive Lineman Jordy Nunez were also named to the Honorable mention team. Sandoz lead the Lions in tackles with 89 and has a reputation across the NCCAA football country as a “feared” hitter! Emerson put his blazing speed to good use on special teams amassing nearly 700 yards and a TD on his double roll of Kick and Punt Returner which was near the top in the nation. He also accumulated over 600 yards of receiving yardage giving him nearly 1300 yards of total offense on the year. Fellers was a team captain and was the most consistent player on the Lions squad this year. He led the team in Passes Defensed and was tied for the team lead in Interceptions. Nunez was a rock all year on the Line for the young Lions offense providing much needed experience and passion for the whole team. Congratulations to these young men and we look forward to seeing the Lions in action next year!!
Good Job Clay
