Lady Lions Hold on Late for win in Home Opener

The Trinity Bible College women’s basketball team survived a late rally by Turtle Mountain Community College on Tuesday night to win 69-66. This moves the Lions to 2-1 on the season and 2-1 in the conference.

The Lady Lions jumped out to a 14 point half time lead, but saw that lead shrink in the second half by getting outscored 32-21 in the half. The Lions were up by 9 with three minutes left, but were unable to build on the lead, allowing Turtle Mountain to get back into it. But in the end, the Lions were able to make a few clutch shots and run the clock out to escape with the victory.

Coach Nowell had this to say about the game: “It is always good to pull off a win when it gets close in the end. I was very happy with the first half. We played very well, but the second half was a different story. It definitely highlighted areas we need to work on. We are young and have a long way to go, but we are getting better every game.”

The Lions had 4 players in double-figures. Freshman Kayla Droste paced the Lions with 14 points on 6-8 shooting and grabbed 7 rebounds. Another freshman Kylie Flemmer added 13 points, 6 steals, 3 assists, and 5 rebounds for a great game! Freshman Sheria Billie scored 11 points and handed out 4 assists. Freshman Tatiana Alualu scored 10 point on 4-6 shooting from the field. The Lions had 16 steals in the game and shot 15-21 from the free throw line.

The Lions’ next game will be Friday, November 19th @ 6pm against an NAIA opponent in Dakota State University.
