The Trinity Bible College men’s basketball team defeated conference foe St. Cloud Technical College 109-98 on Tuesday night. It was the Lions’ first game of the season and a chance at redemption after losing to St. Cloud in the conference championship game last season. The Lions shot 43 out of 79 (54.4%) overall for the game. Trinity had four players score in double figures.
Senior Shean Bosworth put on a show, scoring 38 points, hitting 6 of 7 from long range, and 12 of 15 from the field overall. He also handed out 12 assists in the game. Senior Jimmy McKinzie added 24 points and 7 boards. Junior Micah Gunther added 15 points, making 7-10 from the field. Mo Mahoney recorded a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Lions. Senior Colby Simonsen led the team with 4 steals and scored 5 points. Freshman Mikey Rosario, Michael Rohrbach, and David Rohrbach each added 5, 5, and 4 respectively in their college basketball debuts.
Coach Nowell had this to say: “I liked the intensity that we played with. Our offense was definitely clicking tonight. Shean was on fire. Whenever you can shoot above 50% for the game, we’ll take it. My older guys really stepped up tonight, but I was also very impressed by the freshman. They did very well for their first game and I look for a lot more from them as we continue to move forward.”
The Lions play host to AFLBS on Thursday evening in another conference matchup at 8pm. On Friday the Lions play Crossroads College at 8pm as well. Then, to round out the Trinity Classic, the Lions face Turtle Mountain Community College at 4pm.
