Trinity Lions Spoil Presentation College’s First Ever Football Game

The stage was set for Presentation College Saints as they played Trinity Bible College for their first ever college football game in school history.  A large crowd was on hand to see this historical event for Presentation College, but Trinity Lions had their own plans for the day. After exchanging possessions early in the first quarter the Presentation College Saints scored their first touchdown of their young history with a QB sneak by Cullen O’Brien from the one yard line but missed their extra point. The home crowd for the Saint was electric but it quickly lost its charge as the Lions would score four touchdowns before halftime. Junior Quarterback Brandon Welch (Orlando, FL) threw for all four of those touchdowns to three different receivers. Welch connected first on a 24 yard touchdown pass to Shean Bosworth (Winchester, IN) to tie the game, He then found Khalil Ervin (Philadelphia, PA) in the back of the endzone for a 12 yard touchdown pass to put the Lions ahead 13 to 6 early in the 2nd quarter. Two minutes later Welch hit Barry Bighorn (Culbertson, MT) with a pass across the middle, which Bighorn took it 53 yards to the house in what was probably the most exciting play of the day. Then Welch found Bosworth one more time with a 25 yard touchdown pass to give the Lions a 27 to 6 lead at half over the Saints. The Saints scored with just under seven minutes left in the 3rd quarter on a Cullen O’Brien 14 yard touchdown pass to Will Vealy, to bring the game to 27 to 13. That was the last time the Saints would see the endzone. The Lions would add two more touchdowns in the 4th quarter. Welch connected for a 2nd time with Ervin with a six yard touchdown pass on 4th down and completely took the air out of the Saints sails. With a 33 to 13 lead the Lions added their only rushing touchdown of the day with Donald Knight (Apopka, FL) finding the endzone on a 13 yard touchdown run, the Lions dominated the Saints with 496 yards of total offense to the Saints 163. Brandon Welch in his first start at Quarterback went 18 of 31 for 279, five touchdowns and one interception.  Cole White (Grass Valley, CA) (2010 NCCAA All-American) led the Lions defense with nine total tackles, two sacks and one interception.  The 39 to 13 win gave Trinity a 2-0 start on the season. The Lions next game is Saturday September 10th against Mayville State College in Mayville, ND. Kick-off will be at 2pm.
