The Trinity Lions traveled to Mayville, ND on Saturday to face NAIA opponent Mayville State University. After starting the season with two exciting victories the Lions had its share of struggles against the Comets. Mayville came out “guns a blazing”, scoring early and often in the first quarter. The Comets scored twice on the ground with rushing touchdowns, they added two more touchdowns in the air with touchdown passes of 24 yards and 26 yards. To make matters worse, to close out the first quarter the Comets took an interception 46 yards for a touchdown to give them a commanding 36 to 0 lead after just one quarter. The Lions found the endzone early in the second quarter on a five yard touchdown pass from Brandon Welch (Orlando, FL) to Donald Knight (Apopka, FL).  The Comets would answer taking the ensuing kick-off 73 yards for a touchdown and then would take a Lions punt back 50 yards for a touchdown giving the Comets a 51 to 6 lead at half. Mayville would only add two more 2^nd half touchdowns on a 15 yard run and a 18 yard interception return.  The Comets controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball only allowing 90 total yards of offense for the Lions while collecting 331 yards of total offense.

 Leading the Lions on defense was Cole White (Grass Valley, CA) with 13 total tackles.  Jose Casanova (Weslaco, TX) was close behind with nine total tackles. James Cintron (Orlando, FL), Aaron Conner (Nebraska City, NE), Ryan Wolfenden (Wadena, MN) and Chance Baker (Norco, CA) all had eight total tackles respectively. Jerome Lowery (Apopka, FL) had one interception on the day to bring his season total to three. The loss brings the Lions record to 2-1. The Lions have a bye week this week, with their next game Saturday, September 24^th against Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa. Kick Off will be at 1pm.
