The Trinity Bible College Lions Football Team took
to the road this past weekend to face NAIA Waldorf College in Forest City,
Iowa. Coming into the game the Lions were coming off a bye week with a record
of 2-1. Waldorf College entering the day had a record of 0-3 on the season. It
was a battle from the opening kick-off.
Waldorf
Warriors got the kick-off and on the first snap of the game fumbled the ball to
the Lions. However the Lions could not capitalize on the turnover. The Lions
would turn it over on downs, but they would not have to wait long to get the
ball back as the Warriors would fumble the snap again and Ryan Wolfenden
(Wadena, MN) would recover the fumble for the second straight possession. The
Lions would find the endzone this time on a Donald Knight (Apopka, FL) one yard
touchdown run, giving the Lions an early 6-0 lead. Waldorf would then fail to
convert on a fourth down the next possession giving the Lions the ball on
Waldorf’s 44 yard line. It would not take the Lions long to find the endzone on
this possession going two plays to score on a Jason Elliott (Thedford, NE) 25
yard touchdown run to put the Lions on top 13-0. Waldorf would answer only a minute later with
a 29 yard touchdown pass to James Loydd from Ryan Young. The Lions would hold a
13-7 lead at the end of the first quarter. The Warriors would add another
touchdown in the 2nd quarter on a Marshall Williams three yard
touchdown run. Two minutes later they would add a 40 yard field goal by Bradan
Williams to give Waldorf a 17-13 lead. Trinity closed out the first half
scoring with just 32 seconds left on a two yard touchdown pass to Khalil Ervin
(Philadelphia, PA) from Brandon Welch (Orlando, FL) putting the Lions on top 20
to 17 at halftime.
The
second half was dominated by the defenses. Waldorf would find the endzone with
six minutes left in the 3rd quarter on a 24 yard touchdown run from
James Loydd, giving the Warriors the lead back 23-20. The Warriors would hold
the Lions scoreless in the 3rd quarter and would hold onto the lead
going into the 4th quarter. Waldorf would add another score this
time a 10 yard pass to Jeff Riley from Bryce Rusler with just under five minutes
left in the game giving them a 30-20 lead. The Lions failed to find the endzone
in the 4th as well and Waldorf held on to win 30-20.
The win moves Waldorf
to 1-3 on the year and the Lions fall to 2-2. The Lions had more total yards of
offense than the Warriors 217 to 197. However, it was a game of turnovers as
the Lions turned the ball over four times with two fumbles and two
interceptions and the Warriors only turned it over three times with three
fumbles. The Lions were led on defense by Chance Baker (Norco, CA) and Cole
White (Grass Valley, CA). Chance tallied 15 total tackles, with 3.5 tackles for
loss and one sack. Cole added 15 total tackles of his own and one tackle for
loss. James Cintron (Orlando, FL) pitched in with seven total tackles with 2.5
tackles for loss on the day. The Lions go on the road again next week for their
4th road game in five weeks next Saturday as they face Dakota
College at Bottineau. Kick-Off is 2pm.
