The Trinity Bible College Lions Football travelled a long
distance this past week to Lawrence, Kansas to play Haskell Indian Nations
University. The two teams faced each other in the first game of the season in Ellendale.
The Lions came out on top in that match up 42 to 35 in overtime. This time
around the game had a lot less offense.
After a
scoreless first quarter, Haskell found the end zone first on a two yard
touchdown run by Brandon Beaton. The Lions would finally score a touchdown of
their own with just over one minute left in the first half on a 35 yard punt
return for a touchdown by Jerome Lowery (Apopka, FL). The two teams were tied
7-7 at half.
The
Lions would take the lead with four and half minutes left in the 3rd
quarter on a Bryan Clark (Long Beach, CA) three yard touchdown run. The Clark
touchdown would prove to be enough as neither team would score again and the
Lions would hold on to win 14-7.
The Lions were led by Bryan Clark
on offense with 99 yards on 21 carries and he also went seven of 24 passing for
31 yards. Jerome Lowery had two punt returns for 43 yards including, a 35 yard
one he took for a touchdown. Ryan Wolfenden (Wadena, MN) led the Lions on
defense with eight total tackles, with one for loss. Josh Conner (Nebraska
City, NE) added three tackles with one for loss to go with and interception.
With the win the Lions finished
their 2011 season with a 5-5 record, the best record in recent memory. The Lions would like to thank all of the fans
who have followed and supported the football team this season! We look forward to putting another great
product on the field next year!
