Lady Lions Lose a Close Game in Five

On Monday night the Lady Lions Volleyball team hosted Minnesota State Community and Technical College of Fergus Falls in a match that went the distance. Coming into the match the Lady Lions had a record of 11-4 and the Spartans had a 7-9 record. The match was back and forth from the get go. The Lady Lions charged out to an early lead in game one, but the Lady Spartans fought back and the first game was tied 25-25. The two teams went back and forth until the Lady Lions finally won game one 31-29. The Lady Spartans would respond in game two winning 25-17. Now it was time for the Lady Lions to take back control as they battled back to win game three 25-20, which gave them a 2-1 lead in the match. However, the Lady Spartans came out with some intensity and won game four in impressive fashion 25-6, and forced a 5th game. Just the like the match, game five was back and forth with MSCTC taking an 8-7 as the teams changed sides. The Lady Spartans would end up winning the 5th game 15-10 and won the match three games to two. Leading the Lady Lions in kills was Sophomore Tatiana Alualu (Honolulu, HI) with 14; she also had 11 digs and six blocks. Freshman Hannah Kovarik (Thedford, NE) helped out with 11 kills, 10 digs, one ace and one block. Freshman Treva Nutter (Thedford, NE) also added 23 digs, 10 kills, two blocks and two aces.
