Lions Fade Late in Loss to Presentation

The Trinity Lions had an eight day layoff since their last game, which they let slip away late. They were looking to get back on the winning track as they welcomed their rival from Aberdeen, SD, the Presentation College Saints to Ellendale. Going into the game the Lions were 4-3 on the year, while the Saints were 1-4.

The Lions came out fast getting an early 13 to 6 lead, seven minutes into the game. The Saints would settle down and fight back getting their first lead of the game 20 to 21 with seven minutes left in the first half. The two teams would go back and forth in the first half until the Lions, with the help of freshman forward Barry Bighorn’s (Culbertson, MT) back to back steals gained the lead back 31 to 28 with three minutes left. The Saints would use a three pointer that would be banked in off the glass at the end of the first half to bring the Lions lead at halftime 38 to 37. Junior guard Mikey Rosario (Fort Worth, TX) would have 16 of the Lions 38 points at the half.

The second half started out much similar to the first, as the Lions would come out strong and push the lead to as much as 8 points at one time. The Lions would hold that eight point lead 50 to 42 with 14 minutes left in the game, that’s when Presentation College would battle back using an 8 to 0 run to tie the game with just over 12 minutes to play. Barry Bighorn would get yet another steal and layup with 10 minutes to play to give the Lions a 59 to 54 lead. The Saints would put together another run 17 to 7 getting the lead 66 to 71 with just six minutes left in the game. The Lions could not close the gap, as the Presentation College Saints would hold on to win 88 to 80.

The Lions were led by Mikey Rosario, who had 28 points (9 of 15 from the field and 8 of 8 on free throws), 4 assists and 4 rebounds. Freshman Barry Bighorn had a big night for the Lions in his first career college start. Barry had a game high 7 steals to go with his 15 points.

The loss moves the Lions to 4 – 4 on the year, with four games left in the first semester. They play host to Providence College tonight Friday December 2nd at 8pm and against tomorrow December 3rd at 2pm.

A special congratulations goes out to Junior guard Mikey Rosario, who before the game was honored with a special ball to commemorate his 1000th Career Point.  Mikey scored his 1000th point against Dakota College at Bottineau on Tuesday, November 22nd in Bottineau. It only took Mikey 70 career games to reach the milestone.  Congratulations Mikey Rosario.
