The
Trinity Lions Men’s basketball team was on a three game losing streak entering
the game Friday night against Providence College Freeman. The Lions let two of
those games slip away late. They were looking to turn the ship around and get
back to their winning ways.
The
Lions got back to the style of basketball they were successful with in the first half
of Friday’s game. They were pushing the ball and scoring in
transition as they would start the first eight minutes of the game on a 16 to 8
run and never looked back. The Lions pushed the pace Friday night and pushed
the lead to double digits in the first half. They took a 15 point lead into
half time leading 41 to 26. They were being led by freshman center Nick
Lentz (Onida, SD) in his second college start with 14 points on 7 of 12 from
the field and 9 rebounds.
The Lions
would hold the lead the whole game, and held a lead as big as 25 points at
times in the second half. The biggest highlight of the game came when freshman
forward Barry Bighorn (Culbertson, MT) put down an exciting fast break dunk. Trinity
would out score Providence 43 to 30 in the second half to win 84 to 56.
Leading
the Lions in the win was junior guard Mikey Rosario (Fort Worth, TX) with 19
points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Freshman Nick Lentz finished with 18 points
and 16 rebounds for his first career double double and senior guard Alan Usher
(Los Angeles, CA) scored 13 points and had 6 rebounds off the bench. All 12
Lions would see action in the game with all but one scoring.
The win
puts the Lions to 5-4 on the year with another home game tomorrow Saturday,
December 3rd against Providence College. They finish the first half
of the year on the road with games at Jamestown College and at Valley City
State.
