The Trinity Lady Lions basketball team was coming off a huge
win Thursday night, beating rival Presentation College 72 to 66 as they
welcomed regional opponent Providence College to Ellendale. The Lady Lions were
riding a two game win streak going into the game.
The
Lady Lions came out fast again on Friday night, with three different people
hitting a three pointer to start the game. They then would use their pressure
defense to start the game on a 16 to 5 run in the first five minutes. They
would not look back from there. The Lady Lions would push the lead to 34 to 11
only three minutes later. All of the Lady Lions would get to see the court in
the first half as the Lady Lions held a 51 to 18 lead at the break. The Lady
Lions were led at halftime by their two posts sophomore Tatiana Alualu
(Honolulu, HI) who had 14 points on 7 of 10 shooting and freshman Hannah
Kovarik (Thedford, NE) who added 10 points on 5 of 6 shooting and 5 rebounds.
The
second half was much like the first, with the Lady Lions using good defense and
ball movement as they would out score Providence College 36 to 18 in the second
half. Just like in the first half all 11 of the Lady Lions would see the court
with eight of the 11 scoring. Of the 11 Lady Lions to play five of them scored
double digits in the game. Leading all scorers was Hannah Kovarik with 20
points and 8 rebounds. She was joined in double digits by Treva Nutter
(Thedford, NE) who had 16 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists, Tatiana Alualu who
had 16 points and 4 rebounds, Kylie Flemmer (Beulah, ND) had 11 points, 6
rebounds and 4 assists and by Shianne Montgomery (Charlo, MT) who pitched in 11
points and 5 assists.
The win
moves the Lady Lions winning streak to three games in a row, with another home
game Saturday, December 3rd against Providence College. They then
finish the semester with two road games at Valley City State and at Jamestown
College.
