Lions Run to an Overtime Win in Season Opener 42 - 35

The Trinity Bible College Lions opened their 2011 football season in exciting fashion last Saturday. The Lions hosted Haskell Indian Nations University for their first game of the year and four quarters was not enough, so they decided to play some overtime.  The Lions scored first with a 5 yard touchdown run by Antonio Davis. They then added the two point conversion with a pass from Austin Morris to Jason Elliot to give them an 8 to 0 lead. Haskell responded with a 6 yard touchdown pass from Ryan Alden to Casey Wilson and made the extra point. The score after the 1st quarter had Trinity on top 8 to 7. They kept that lead until Haskell scored on a Brandon Beaton 4 run yard touchdown run. Haskell then held a 14 to 8 lead but not for long. Their lead only lasted for 1 minute and 2 seconds as the Lions answered with a 81 yard aerial bomb from Austin Morris to Brandon Welch to give them a 15 to 14 lead going into half. The fireworks would only start there. The Lions added 3 touchdowns in the 3rd quarter in 3 different fashions, a 9 yard touchdowns pass from Austin Morris to Shean Bosworth. Then Aaron Conner took a 50 yard interception back for a touchdown on defensive. A. Conner was one of two Lions to have two interceptions in the game. (Jerome Lowery was the other)The Lions also scored on the ground in the 3rd quarter with a Donald Knight 18 yard touchdown run. Haskell got in on the scoring frenzy in the 3rd with two touchdown passes from Ryan Alden. (40 yards to Casey Wilson and 11 yards to Caleb Chaffin) After a exciting start to the 2nd half the lions held on to the lead after the 3rd 35 to 27 only to give up a early game tying score to Haskell in the 4th quarter on a 28 yard touchdown pass from Ryan Alden to Casey Wilson. That would be the last of the scoring in regulation. It was 35 to 35 at the start of the first overtime and the Lions got the ball first and drove down to the 2 yard line where Josh McKellar finished off the drive with a touchdown run. Haskell got their chance to answer but the Lions stood their ground and Freshman Josh Conner intercepted a Ryan Alden pass in the end zone to seal the victory for the Lions.
