Trinity Lions Football Weekly- Week 2

This Week:  Trinity Bible College Lions Football (0 – 1 overall) plays host to Cole College (0-0 overall) Monday September 3rd at 6pm. The Lions will be coming off a longer than normal lay off between games, 8 days between contests, giving them time to recover from the long road trip and plenty of preparation time as well.

Last Time Out:  Trinity Bible College travelled to Deerfield, Illinois to open their 2012 season against Trinity International University. The Lions lost 59 to 15. In the loss the Lions had 367 total yards of offense compared to the 673 for the Trojans. The Lions would run more offensive plays then the Trojans 74 to 58 and also tally more passing yards with the Lions going 22 out of 38 for 243 passing yards to the 8 of 13 for 199 yards of the Trojans. The Lions had only two turnovers in the game one interception and one fumble.

National Rankings:  No new rankings have come out yet for this season, but the Lions had the number one ranked defense in the NCCAA (National Christian College Athletics Association) last season. The Lions also had two players named NCCAA All-Americans after last season, offensive lineman Drew Carter and defensive back Cole White. They also had defensive coordinator Orah Garst namedAssistant Coach of the Year”.

Lions Leaders: The Lions were led offensively by freshman Kalen Coats who accumulated more than 100 yards of total offense; he rushed 5 times for 38 yards and had 4 receptions for 67 yards giving him 105 yards of total offense. Austin Morris got the majority of the snaps for the Lions going 18 for 29 for 189 yards with one interception. Thomas Clarkson (Los Angeles, CA) led the Lions in receptions with 8 for 60 yards and Cooper Spurgin caught the only touchdown pass for the Lions.  The Lions were led on defense by sophomore Seth Peterson (Dazey, ND) who had 7 total tackles. Devonte Davis (Desoto, TX), Marcus Bartles (Belden, NE) and Josh Conner (Nebraska City, NE) all added 6 tackles respectively.
