The Trinity Bible
College Lady Lions have been counting down the days until tip off for their first
game of the 2012-2013 season. They are ready to work hard and try to repeat as
North Central Region Champions. The Lady Lions made it to the NCCAA DII
National Tournament last season and their goal is to make a return trip this
season. The Lady Lions returned 8
players from their championship team a season ago and have added 5 freshmen.
Their first test of the season was Friday night November 2nd at the Association
Free Lutheran Bible School Conquerors.
The game would get off to a slow start for both teams as
they were trying to find a rhythm in their first game of the season. The Lady
Lions scored first on a jumper in the lane by freshman Janae Droste (Ingalls,
KS). The pace would stay slow for the first half of the game as the Lady Lions
started on an 11 to 2 run over the first 9 minutes of the game. Their biggest
lead of the first half was at the 3 minute mark of the first half as the Lady
Lions would hold a 10 point lead over the Conquerors 22 to 12. The Conquerors
would do their best to close the gap before half cutting the lead to only 8
points, 26 to 18 as both teams headed into the half.
The Lady Lions would fix some things at half time and
come out strong. They used a 13 to 0 run to distance themselves and the
Conquerors taking a 39 to 18 lead with 15 minutes left in the game. The Lady
Lions would not allow a Conquerors basket until 12 minutes left in the game.
They then used a 12 to 7 run to give them a 56 to 27 lead with 5 minutes to go.
The Lady Lions went on to win 62 to 35 over the Conquerors. In the win the Lions
were led by senior Treva Nutter (Thedford, NE) with 20 points, 6 rebounds and 6
steals. Joining her in double figures was senior Shianne Montgomery (Charlo,
MT) with 14 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals and junior Kylie Flemmer (Beulah,
ND) with 10 points to go with her 7 rebounds and 4 assists.
Saturday afternoon saw a rematch of the Lady Lions and
Conquerors as they got set to finish their weekend series. The Lady Lions
starts this game a little quicker than their last as they would jump out to a
quick 5-0 lead and use a 13 to 4 run to start the game in the first 4 minutes.
The two teams’ offenses then struggled to find the basket as the Conquerors
went on a 2-0 run over a 3 minute span closing the Lady Lions lead to 16 to 10
with 9 minutes to go in the first half. The Lady Lions would respond and went
on a 15 to 8 run to finish the half talking a 31 to 18 lead into the break.
Trinity came out strong again in the first part of the
second half using a 9 to 2 run to open the first 4 minutes of the final half.
The Lady Lions then found themselves up 46 to 26 with 13 minutes to play in the
game; however that lead was not safe. The Conquerors defense stepped up and the
Lady Lions offensive struggled to get anything going over the final 13 minutes
of the game. The Conquerors went on a 22 to 2 run over 12 minutes to get within
4 points of the Lady Lions 46 to 42. Trinity’s defense would come up with two
big steals in the final minute of the game and they would sink some pressure
free throws and go on to win 49 to 44. In the win the Lady Lions were again led
by Treva Nutter who had 14 points and 4 rebounds. Kylie Flemmer added 8 points
and 8 rebounds, Kayla Droste (Ingalls, KS) added 7 points and 4 rebounds and
Janae Droste pitched in 6 points and 6 rebounds for the Lady Lions.
