Lady Lions Win Big in NIAC Conference Game

Ellendale, ND:  The Trinity Bible College Lady Lions started their season off hot going 3-0 in their first 3 contests, then they ran into some tough NAIA and NJCAA opponents where they lost four straight. The Lady Lions welcomed Turtle Mountain Community College to Ellendale, ND as they looked to get back on the winning side of things.

            The Lady Lions came out fast in the first half going on a quick run to start the game and they never looked back. They would hold Turtle Mountain to just 26 points in the first half. The Lady Lions offense found a good rhythm scoring 46 first half points of their own on 20 for 39 (51.3 percent) shooting. The Lady Lions held Turtle Mountain to just 29 percent (7 of 24) shooting and forced 17 turnovers. The Lady Lions were being paced at halftime by senior Shianne Montgomery who had 13 points on 5 for 6 shooting and 3 for 4 on threes. Kayla Droste had 8 points at the break going 4 for 4 from the field.

            The second half was the same story for the two teams as the Lady Lions defensive pressure was too much for Turtle Mountain.  The Lady Lions forced 13 more turnovers in the second half and held Turtle Mountain to just 27 points. The Lady Lions continued to shoot well in the second half going 22 for 44 (50 percent) from the field and 3 for 6 from three (50 percent). All 13 Lady Lions would not only see the floor in the second half but also score. The Lady Lions managed to score 47 points in the second half to go on to beat Turtle Mountain by 40 points 93 to 53.

            In the win the Lady Lions had six players in double figures and all 13 players scored at least 2 points for the team. They were led by senior Shianne Montgomery who had 15 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 steals in just 17 minutes of action. Kayla Droste had 14 points, Aaren LaRose had 12 points, Kylie Flemmer added 11 points and Lauren Fischer and Janae Droste both pitched in 10 points. The Lady Lions shot 50.6 percent (42 for 83) for the game from the field and recorded 19 offensive rebounds.

            The win puts the Lady Lions 4 game losing streak to an end and moves their season record to 4-4. The Lady Lions travel to Jamestown, ND on Tuesday, November 27th to face Jamestown College at 5:30pm. The Lions then host Providence College, Faith Baptist Bible College and North Central University over the weekend. The Lions play Faith Baptist Bible College Friday night, November 30th at 6pm, North Central University Saturday night, December 1st at 4pm and Providence College Sunday afternoon, December 2nd at 2pm.
