College Lady Lions got an opportunity to avenge a loss from the first half of
the season as they welcomed Dakota College Bottineau to Ray Ulmer Fieldhouse
Friday night. The two teams first faced off at the Baymont Inn Classic in Wahpeton,
ND a meeting which saw Dakota College Bottineau come out on top with the 66 to
58 win. The Lady Lions were ready for another shot against Bottineau.
The Lady Lions seized their opportunity as they stormed
out to an early lead on Bottineau. They would use some hot shooting to get out
in front and some tough defense to stay there. The Lady Lions would hold
Bottineau to just 22 first half points and just 9 for 27 shooting (33 percent)
from the field. The Lady Lions shot the ball really well in the first half
going 18 for 43 (41 percent) from the field and 6 for 14 (42 percent) on
threes. They were being paced by the hot start of junior guard Kylie Flemmer
who poured in 17 first half points and senior guard Treva Nutter who added 10
first half points of her own. The two guards combined for 27 of the Lady Lions
43 first half points.
In the second half the Lady Lions continued to pressure
Bottineau as their lead would grow to as much as 30 points. All 13 of the Lady
Lions would see the court in the second half as the large lead allowed the
starters to rest. 11 of the 13 Lady Lions would score in the game as well. The
two teams would draw even in the second half at 29 points apiece as the Lady
Lions held on to win 72 to 51. The Lady Lions defense held Bottineau to 35
percent from the field in the second half and 1 for 12 (8 percent) on threes.
The Lady Lions themselves cooled off in the second half shooting 28 percent (10
for 35) from the field and 33 percent (4 for 12) from three.
In the win the Lady Lions were led by Kylie Flemmer who
finished the game leading all scorers with 23 points on 9 for 17 (52 percent)
shooting and 5 for 9 (55 percent) on threes. She also added 4 steals. Joining
her in double figures was Treva Nutter who finished with 12 points, 8 assists,
7 rebounds and 2 steals. The Lady Lions out rebounded Bottineau 50 to 47 and
forced 27 Bottineau turnovers for the game. The Lady Lions also grabbed 14
offensive rebounds and 15 steals.
The win moves the Lady Lions back to .500 at 9-9. The
Lady Lions have a busy week this week with three games. The first game is on Tuesday,
January 22nd at 5:30pm at University of Minnesota- Morris, then on
Friday, January 25th the Lady Lions host rival Presentation College
at 6pm. Finally the Lady Lions finish their week off on Saturday, January 26th
as they travel to Madison, SD to face NAIA foe Dakota State University at 4pm.
