Morris, MN: The Trinity Bible College Lions men team is
looking to right the ship as of late that see’s them in a five game slump. The
Lions headed into Tuesday night’s game coming off a tough overtime loss at the
hands of Dakota College Bottineau. The Lions were looking to turn things around
as they visited University of Minnesota Morris.
The Lions however stumbled out of the gates as Morris
would open the game on a 12 to 2 run over the first five minutes of the game.
The Lions would get down by 11 point with nine minutes left in the first half.
They then used a nice run to get within three points of the Cougars but Morris
would answer the call and hit back to back three pointers to push their lead
back to nine. The Cougars largest lead came with four minutes left in the half
as they went up by 15 points over the Lions and they eventually went into
halftime with at 41to 31 lead. The one bright spot for the Lions in the first
half was guard Mikey Rosario who was shooting the ball well and led all scorers
with 17 first half points.
The second half seemed to be a mirror image of the first
half for the Lions, as they struggled both offensively and trying to keep the
Cougars off the glass. University of Minnesota Morris went on to defeat the
Lions by 23 points 94 to 71.
The Lions offense struggled in the loss but four players
still managed to score double figures, senior guard Mikey Rosario led the way
with 27 points. Junior guard AJ Anthony added 16 points, David Rohrbach added
11 points and senior post Cameron Martell scored 10 points off the bench for
the Lions. Offensive rebounds and turnovers plagued the Lions in the game as
they gave up 28 offensive rebounds to the Cougars and turned the ball over 20
times.
The loss drops the Lions to 7-12 on the season with two
more games to play this weekend. The Lions have two days to heal up and prepare
for rival Presentation College who they previously beat 73 to 64 in their first
match up this season. The two teams meet in Ellendale, ND this time on Friday,
January 25th at 8pm. The Lions then travel to Madison, SD to face
Dakota State University on Saturday, January 26th at 4pm. Dakota
State beat the Lions earlier in the season 80 to 59.
