Lady Lions Win Final Home Game of Season

Ellendale, ND:            The 2012-2013 Trinity Bible College Lady Lions welcomed United Tribes Technical College to the RUF and snow-packed Ellendale, ND for their final home stand of this season. The Lady Lions headed into the match up riding a four game winning streak.

            The Lady Lions came out strong against the T-Birds of United Tribes as they opened the game on a 10 to 4 run and eventually pushed their lead to double digits just nine minutes into the game. The Lady Lions with six minutes to go in the first half held a 12 point advantage and used their pressure defense to take a 16 point lead into halftime 46 to 30. At halftime the Lady Lions were being led by Kylie Flemmer’s 12 points and Shianne Montgomery’s 11 points.

            In the second half the Lady Lions continued their stellar defensive play and held United Tribes to just eight points in the first nine minutes, this helped propel their lead to 66 to 38. The Lady Lions and United Tribes then played even for the next eight minutes both scoring 14 points apiece. With 2:45 to play in the game senior Treva Nutter sank a free throw to give her 1500 career points. Treva needed 13 points heading into the game to make the 1500 club and she made 1500 and 1501 on free throws. The Lady Lions went on to win 82 to 57 over United Tribes Technical College.

            In the win the Lady Lions were led by Shianne Montgomery who poured in 6 of 8 three pointers to finish the game with 22 points and 4 assists. Junior Kylie Flemmer added 21 points on 9 for 12 shooting with 4 assists. Senior Treva Nutter finished with 14 points, 7 rebounds, and 5 assists and Kelby Wiederhold finished with a near double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds. The Lady Lions pulled down 20 offensive rebounds and forced 22 United Tribes turnovers. They finished the game shooting 45 percent from the field and 50 percent on threes.

            The win moves the Lady Lions to 14 and 12 on the season and giving them five wins in a row heading into their NIAC Conference Tournament. The Lady Lions who captured the NIAC regular season crown will go this weekend into the tournament as the #1 seed and face #4 seed Crossroads College at 2pm on Friday, February 15th. If they win they face the winner of #2 seed Turtle Mountain Community College versus #3 AFLBS on Saturday, February 16th at 2pm. The NIAC Tournament this year is being hosted by Turtle Mountain Community College in Belcourt, ND.
