The Trinity Bible College baseball team played three games this past weekend in Glendive, Mt. This was only Trinity's 5th, 6th, and 7th games of the season. "There were more positives than negatives to the weekend," Coach Strong said. "But we have to do a better job of hitting the ball more consistently."
Trinity 0 vs. Dawson Community College 20
In the first game of the Friday double-header, the Lions came out very slow. "We just weren't ready to play," Coach Strong said. "It was 100% my fault that we were unprepared. I have to do a better job of getting the guys mentally focused for the game." Ben Snyder pitched for the Lions, but wasn't as sharp as he usually is. "Ben was at a disadvantage from the start. I didn't prepare him enough to give him a chance to be successful," Coach Strong said. Matt Lapp led the Lions in hitting going 1-2 in the game.
Trinity 0 vs. Dawson Community College 10
In the second game of the Friday double-header, the Lions played better defensively, but still struggled hitting the ball. Aaron Nelson pitched well for the Lions, recording three strike-outs, but struggled in a specific area of the strike zone. "Aaron did a fine job; I just need him to keep the ball down in the strike zone. He's still learning to keep the ball down in the zone. But again, the fault is mine, as I didn't prepare him enough," Coach Strong said. Cody Testroet pitched two innings in relief for the Lions. "Cody had a maturing experience," Coach Strong said. "He is really developing into a college pitcher. He's not worrying as much about striking everyone out, but he focusing more on just getting them to hit ground balls and allowing our defense to work. He pitched very well." Matt Lapp again led the Lions in hitting going 1-2 in the game. For the day, Lapp hit .500 at 2-4.
Trinity 2 vs. Williston State 7
In the last game of the weekend, Trinity faced off against Williston State. This was the second time the Lions faced Williston. Trinity fielded a lot better than in their previous two games. They were able to trade punches with Williston for the first two innings as the two teams entered the third inning tied at 2. Dusty Hess was on the mound for the Lions. He gave up 6 hits in 5 innings of work. "Dusty pitched great," Coach Strong said. "Dusty will really be a cornerstone to the pitching staff this year if we can keep him healthy. He changed speeds and was able to get a lot of ground ball outs. I also think our defense played better. Scott Kilsdonk is really learning to field his position well." Matt Fellers used only 11 pitches in the 6th inning and recorded a strike out. The Lions' bats were led by Ben Snyder who was 1-3 from the plate with an RBI. Austin Flynn also had an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the top of the 1st inning. Dusty Hess was 1-3 with a double, while Scott Kilsdonk also hit 1-3 in the game. "We are still struggling from the plate. We made better contact and more consistent contact in this game, but we still need to get better as a whole," Coach Strong said.
