Lions Baseball Drops Double Header

The Trinity Bible College Baseball team dropped a double-header to Crown in St. Bonifacious on Wednesday evening. The games started at 7:30pm and did not finish until well into the midnight hour. Coach Strong said, "We were really hoping to play better against a regional opponent, but we just made too many mistakes to put us in a position to win."

Trinity 2 versus Crown College 8

In the first game of the double-header the Lions fell 2-8. The game would have been a lot closer than the final score showed but some untimely errors allowed Crown to score some insurance runs. Cody Testroet pitched for the Lions. He gave up five earned runs in six innings, striking out two in the process. "Cody pitched well," Coach Strong said. "Walks hurt him the most. I was happy with his progress because earlier in the week, we had worked on tweaking his curveball and he was very effective with the change. He's knocking on the door of being a quality collegiate starter. He can throw three pitches very effectively."

Scott Kilsdonk led the Lions in hitting going 1-2 with an RBI in the second inning. Austin Flynn recorded an RBI in the 5th with a sacrifice fly. "Austin is developing into a very patient hitter. He's waiting for good pitches and making very solid contact," Coach Strong said. Ben Snyder was 1-2 in the game as well.

Trinity 2 versus Crown College 20

In the night cap, the Lions lost to the Storm 2-20 in a game that wouldn't end until after midnight. "You always want to try to find some positives in a game like this and I would say that we are gaining confidence at the plate," Coach Strong said. "We are swinging at better pitches and making more contact. Our errors really hurt us this game. I think we were tired and fatigued from the trip but we have got to find a way to stay sharp and stay focused out on the field. We just played a poor baseball game."

The Lions used a barrage of pitchers in the game to try to save some arms for the weekend games. Ben Snyder and Austin Flynn each recorded a strike out. Coach Strong had this to say: "All of the pitchers had trouble keeping the ball down in the strike zone. We've got to find some more consistency in our pitch locations."

Brent Holt led the Lions in hitting going 2-3 in the game with an RBI triple in the 4th inning. "Brent is batting .300 on the season," Coach Strong said. "He has really progressed from last year. I didn't expect to see such gains because of the major adjustments that we made in his swing. But he is becoming very comfortable with his mechanics and really is hitting the ball well." Austin Flynn was 1-3 with a double.
