The Trinity Bible College baseball team played this last weekend in Miles City, Montana as part of a 5 team round-robin tournament. Schools from as far as Minnesota and Canada were represented at the tournament.
Trinity vs. Northland 0-13
The first game was played against Northland out of Thief River Falls, Minnesota. The Lions lost the game 0-13. Coach Strong had this to say: "We had too many errors in the game. But I think a lot of it had to do with first game jitters so hopefully we are past that now. It is also important to recognize that this was there 13th game, and our first."
Trinity vs. Miles City 0-19
The next game was against the host school of Miles City Community College which would prove difficult for the Lions as they would fall 0-19. "We just came across a far superior opponent today," Coach Strong said. "There is a reason why they finished 8th in the NJCAA last season. They were very strong in every aspect of the game."
Trinity vs. Williston State 0-5
The third game on the weekend was versus Williston State. The Lions played very well this game, but would come up short losing 0-5. "I was very pleased with this game," Coach Strong said. "Ben Snyder pitched excellent and our defense was very strong on the day, committing just one error. We still struggled at the plate and need to start stringing some of our hits together."
Trinity vs. Prairie Baseball Academy 2-20
The final game on the weekend would find the Lions up against Prairie Baseball Academy from Canada. The Lions would fall 2-20 in the game. Coach Strong had this to say: "It felt good to finally get some runs across the plate. We gave up a lot of runs this game, but we used a lot of pitchers that didn't have much experience at all. We used this game to try to get them game ready. Colton Anderson showed some great potential on the mound, I think He can really help us down the road."
Overall, the weekend was a good start to the season. The Lions were out-matched a bit because the other schools had already played 12 or 13 games on the season compared to this being the Lions' first games. "We played four very good baseball teams," Coach Strong said. "We definitely saw some good things though. Pitcher Ben Snyder had an Earned Run Average (ERA) of 2.5 on the weekend. Aaron Nelson also did well this weekend; he finished with an ERA of 9.66, which doesn't entirely account for a very strong 3 innings on the second day, were he mixed pitches well, and kept Williston guessing. From the plate, Snyder went 4-11, while Matt Fellers batted 3-8 on the weekend. We have the makings of a good baseball team; we just need to put it all together, and get our bats working a little more as a team"
The Lions will be in action again this weekend as they will travel to Glendive, Montana to play three games. Their first home games will be April 11th versus North Central University at 7:00pm.
